Poor posture, such as that seen when someone is slumped or
sacral sitting, can be a cause of pain and disability. Correct
positioning of the body reduces the strain on the muscles, ligaments,
bones and joints. Internally the organs and the blood vessels are
not compressed, leading to improved lung function and breathing.
In addition to the reduced comfort, shear forces caused by
continually sliding into a sacral sitting position will be reduced
and will help in pressure sore prevention. The Salisbury range of
cushions has been designed in conjunction with the Department
of Medical Physics and Biomechanical Engineering at Salisbury
Hospital. The contouring of these cushions encourages a more
upright posture and prevents sacral sitting. Covered with a
waterproof, vapour permeable two way stretch cover with a zip to
enable inspection of the cushion or washing. The anti-slip base
prevents cushion movement. Size 430 x 430 x 80mm (17 x 17 x 31/4").
